Appellation: Wildcat Vineyard, Mount Veeder, Napa Valley
Production: 250 cases
Fermentation: Open-top fermenters
Barrel Aging: 18 months in French oak (50% new & 50% used once)
Flavor Profile: The lively and intense nose leads with a hint of fresh violets and dark fruits. On the palate, flavors of bright red cherries, blackberries and black currant are highlighted with subtle cranberry. With a full-bodied mouthfeel and moderate tannins, the flavors progressively include a subtle spice component with dark chocolate, pepper, licorice, and cedar.
Varietals & Source: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon comprised of clones 15 and 169 from the Wildcat Vineyard, located 1,800 feet up on Mount Veeder. The vineyard was planted with red Bordeaux varietals by Lisa Chu in the 1990s and produces rich, intense grapes with soft tannins. The vineyard's hilly topography, microclimates and long growing season make it challenging to farm, but the additional effort yields wines that are consistently elegant and memorable.
Clones: The “Elegant Lady” or Clone 15 from the Hillside Block usually results in a wine that is more elegant, smooth and well rounded. The “Bratty Boy” aka Clone 169 from the Terraces Block usually is more tannic, angular and full bodied. We blend these to capture the elegance of the Elegant Lady with the backbone and structure of the Bratty Boy. Alone, each could make a great wine, but together they create magic in the bottle.
Aging Potential: Will age well over the next 10-15 or more years
Alcohol: 14.5%
