It’s officially Cab Season and our Fall 2024 release features two beautiful Cabernet Sauvignons from the famed Mount Veeder Appellation in the Napa Valley. Running a two-person winery is very much like being in a marriage – there’s always give and take. One of these wines is a new addition to our portfolio and was specifically made to mark one person’s resistance to making Majuscule more than a hobby.
When we made the first Majuscule wines in 2009, one of us (that would be Jeff) thought it was just something fun to do, and of course drink. But Greg had other ideas. Year after year, he asked Jeff to make Majuscule a legal winery so we could turn it into a real business, sell the wine, etc. And year after year, Jeff resisted and said no.
Introducing Résistance Cabernet Sauvignon
However, in 2018 Jeff caved and Majuscule Wine was officially permitted with the US government. We celebrate Majuscule’s sixth legal anniversary with the release of the 2021 Résistance Cabernet Sauvignon, a beautiful Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), Cab Franc (17%) and Merlot (5%). It’s deep with color accompanied by bright blue and red fruits on the nose. The flavors of Mount Veeder are evident – dark black and blue fruits with a mid-palate of flint and red flavors. It’s smooth and silky from the first sip leading to a long finish. [45 cases produced]
\Our Flagship Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon Returns
Our flagship wine returns for its third vintage. For the 2021 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon Greg dove deep into the mélange of three varietals. While the past two vintages were nearly 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 shows how well Cab Sauvignon plays with Cab Franc and Merlot under Greg’s skillful hands. The 88% Cabernet Sauvignon creates a strong backbone, while the 8% Cab Franc enhances the long finish. The addition of 4% Merlot with its fruit-forwardness provides width in the midpalate and leads into the finish. As with earlier vintages, this Cab gets better and better with age and will be full on in about 5 years. It will continue to age for 15-25 years beyond that, if you can wait it out.
